Gin Mare launches bartender competition

17 March, 2011

The owners of the Mediterranean gin brand, Gin Mare, have launched a bartender competition that culminates in a grand final on the island of Ibiza in September with a winner’s purse of £6,000.

Spanish-based owners Global Premium Brands (GPB) have two strands to the challenge. One is for UK bar staff, the other is open to bartenders from countries where Gin Mare is available – Spain (two entrants), France (1), Portugal (1), the Netherlands (1), Switzerland (1) and two from Australia where it is distributed by Suntory.

There are three categories to the competition:

- a ‘Mediterranean Martini;

- a gin and tonic;

- and ‘freestyle’, a cocktail based on the four core values of Gin Mare – lifestyle, gastronomy, escape and climate.

The UK heat will take place at the Imbibe show in July and the other heats will take place individually in there countries staged by the Gin Mare distributors.

The final will take place at a luxury villa on Ibiza between September 1-3.

The £6,000 involves being The Gin Mare brand ambassador for the following 12 months.

The key ‘Mediterranean’ botanicals that go into Gin Mare are: basil from Italy, rosemary from Greece, thyme from Turkey and arbequina olive from Spain.  It is made near Barcelona in Catalonia.
