Suntory’s Yamazaki has topped the inaugural edition of Drinks International’s The World’s Most Admired Whiskies which launched on 21 October.

A bottle of Yamazaki single malt has broken the auction record for Japanese whisky, selling for  HK$2,337,000 (US $298,850) on January 27.

UK demand for premium Japanese whisky has led to a 232% increase in sales in 2017 for BI, a fine wine and spirits merchant, while the average price per bottle has risen 65% in 12 months to £450.

This year the World Whisk(e)y charts aren’t dominated by the usual suspects.

Beam Suntory has announced that it will begin distribution of the Suntory Japanese and scotch whiskies and Midori liqueur in the US and Germany beginning July 1.

Whisk(e)y is the subject of today's edition of the Brands Report, a spin-off survey from The World's 50 Best Bars.
