A scotch whisky distiller, when asked recently if he made any blends, was gloriously sniffy and dismissive of blended whisky. It would have been interesting to see and hear what he would have made of the Johnnie Walker Directors Blends, which I got to taste last Thursday (November 28) in London.
The vodka is created from Dankowskie Diamond Rye, a superior “baker’s grade” rye, grown on a small number of farms in Poland’s Mazovia region. The grain’s lower starch content and resultant lower yields allows its rich, full-flavored, rye characteristics to be “fully and uniquely expressed in the raw spirit”.
The matt black bottle with gold detail has been created to appeal to its target market - affluent male consumers.
The 40%abv vodka is to be targeted at high-end bars and members’ clubs as well as ‘luxury retailers’.
