The industry is widely anticipating another rise in alcohol tax, despite lobbying efforts.
Wine and Spirit Trade Association chief executive, Jeremy Beadles, said:
"With two weeks to go before this year’s Budget, we urge the Chancellor to resist raising taxes on wine and spirits. Alcohol taxes have increased by over 20 per cent since 2008, causing job losses in our industry and punishing hard-pressed consumers. Enough is Enough. Higher taxes are failing to deliver the revenue government wants and they undermine the recovery of a vital UK industry."
